Stormers Shout-out – U9-13 Championships 12-13 March 2022

U9-13 Championship’s 12-13 March 2022

Stormers had a great weekend, with 6 of our little athletes competing and having a great experience at the ACT Little Athletics U9-13 Championships. Our kids cheered each other on, they made new friends and got to experience being outside their comfort zone.

Some stats at a glance:

  • 6 Athletes
  • Competing in 25 events
  • Achieving 17 PBs
  • 5 medals / Podiums

Teuila and Lynton represented our U9s and had some amazing results. Teuila achieved 3 podiums placing 3rd in her 100m final and two 2nd places in both her 200m and 400m events. She took a full 7 seconds off her 400m PB (her 400m time was 1:23.64, which is 3:28 per km pace…for an 8 year old!! 😱). While she didn’t make the podium in her 800m, she can be congratulated on shaving over 20 seconds off her PB. Lynton had a great weekend achieving 4 PBs in his 5 events. He made the finals in his 60m hurdles event and also of note, was his 200m race, where he blitzed his previous PB by over 4 seconds (he also took a full second off his 100m time too!).

Nat, Ethan and Willow flew the flag for our U10s with some impressive results. Willow threw close to a one metre PB in Discus but of special note was her efforts at the high jump, clearing 0.9 of a metre which is a great result when you think we have only had a handful of high jump sessions at the Club this year. Nat bettered his PB at the 60m Hurdles event, making the finals and going under 13 seconds! Ethan had a great showing in his 3 events, breaking his Long Jump PB and going very close in his other two events of Hurdles and a top six finish with Shot Put.

Nat, Ethan and Willow all participated in hurdles and at this level of competition, the heights are set at 60cm. We run them at 45cm on training nights for U10s as a lot of the kids can not jump them at 60cm, so a huge pat on the back for these little risk takers, turning up to a regional level competition, jumping those heights for the first time!

Alex was our oldest athlete at the Champs, putting his best foot forward for the U12s. Alex competed in 6 events with PBs in each of them and two podiums with a 2nd place in the 400m (taking 16 seconds off his PB in a time of 1:07.28) and a 3rd in the 800m (taking more than 30 seconds off his PB in a time of 2:33.24).

A huge congratulations to them all, they can be very proud of what they achieved and their exemplary sportsmanship on and off the track and the field. They were great ambassadors for our Club, well done kids!!
